Mr. White shaking hands

Two years after COVD-19 disrupted traditional learning methods around the world, the Tennessee Charter School Center team knows schools schools are still working hard to help students gain ground. With the recent release of TVAAS and TNReady scores, the district was excited to see evidence of many bright spots of schools making great progress.

To celebrate the hard-won successes of public charter schools across Tennessee, the Changemaker Charter School list has been established, and excited to share that Smithson Craighead Academy has been named to the list for grades K-8. This list honors schools that are:

  • In the top 25% of all public schools in the state for percent of students proficient in ELA and Math with a TVAAS ELA/Math composite score of 3 or above, or

  • In the top 25% of all public schools in the state for an increase in the percent of students proficient over pre-pandemic (2019) scores in ELA and/or Math, along with TVAAS scores of 3 or above in the same areas.

It is notable to celebrate schools that not only helped students avoid or recover any learning losses but also found ways to help students achieve beyond even their pre-pandemic proficiency levels. TCSC is pleased to honor public charter schools that utilized their unique nimbleness and autonomy to support student success in both proficiency and growth, particularly during this unique set of school years.
